Community Service Roadside Cleanup:

Eleven club members assisted Phil Wadsack cleaning up a designated stretch of State Route 89A between Cottonwood and West Sedona. Members collected sixteen bags of trash along with an old tire, discarded lumber and the remnants of two abandoned homeless encampments. The antelope, coyotes and nature lovers will thank us! And thanks to those appreciative drivers and cyclists that beeped or yelled thanks on the way by.

Club Excursion to Yavapai College By Don Halford

Our visit to the Yavapai College School of Career and Technical Education campus began with a nice drive through Jerome on the way to Prescott Valley. We stopped at Lindo Mexico Restaurant. Thankfully we arrived early, by the time we left the place was packed. Always a good sign. The food was delicious. Everyone truly enjoyed their meals. On to the campus. 

WOW! That’s the one word I can use to best describe the Yavapai College School of Career and Technical Education campus. I was so excited I wanted to sign up for class on the spot. The campus is huge and the possibilities are endless. The College offers training for welders, mechanics, machinists, gun smiths, painters, autobody repair people, air brush artists, carpenters and graphic artists to name a few. A huge thanks to Jim Converse and others who had a hand in making this outing a huge success.

I would thoroughly enjoy training there for many years. The equipment was second to none, lathes, presses, drill presses, CNC machines, several types of welding machines, two paint booths, robotics, 3D printers, and a few things I didn’t recognize. This school is providing their students with first class training to succeed in today’s competitive environment. 

St. John Vianney Car Display

This has become a favorite event of SCC members. It is a casual car display for the St. John Vianney Catholic Church. They have invited us every year, and they are so happy to host our cars and our members.

Club members joined other auto enthusiasts on April 26th to show off their “pride and joys” for each other and congregation members that stopped by. Also, the cars delighted a bus-load of youngsters from New Mexico that arrived for a retreat activity with the church. The reaction of the young admirers and knowledge of mechanical systems like turbos, multi-piston brakes and (Don, smile now) manual transmissions provided hope that the automobile is not dead to the world, yet.

Verde Valley Assisted Living Car Gathering

Saturday, 06/07/25 @ 10a

Come join the fun and brighten peoples' day! Verde Valley Assisted Living facility is inviting car enthusiasts to display their cars. The facility has a number of residents that are so appreciative to have the opportunity to get out and experience viewing "special" cars.  There will be refreshments provided by the facility. This event follows the Coffee N' Cars get together at Fire Creek in Cottonwood. So come out for great fellowship at Fire Creek. Enjoy great food/coffee and see some special cars. Then motor over to Verde Valley Assisted Living and do something special for the otherwise shut-in residents.  Fire Creek Address: 677 E. Mingus Ave., Cottonwood AZ 86326. Feel good and make someone's day!

We were really impressed with the organization of this event. We thought it was just a car display. Little did we know the assisted living facility had voting and trophies organized and ready. Some of our members won trophies! Good on you.

If you haven’t put a smile on someone’s face, you haven’t joined us for an assisted living or hospice car show. On June 7, 2025, the Club brought a variety cars to share with residents at the invitation of the Verde Valley Assisted Living Center in Cottonwood. Individuals, many of whom gave up driving some time ago, don’t get many chances to see fun cars and chat with the owners. With the attendance of some Cars-and-Coffee regulars, 34 vehicles showed up to engage the residents.

The facility hosted with trophies for a variety of entries, some of which like “Best Paint” and “Best Interior” demonstrated how different and yet creative a car show can be for participants. See the photos to get a flavor for these events and try to join the club at its next similar function.

The August Club Meeting…by Jim Schubert

in the Sedona Library introduced club members to Ed Rose, the Sedona Airport Manager, who massaged the facility into the number one airport in the country. I kid you not. It would seem all he had to do was build more taxiway, put in new LED lighting to reduce power consumption, fix service roads, improve facilities for fighting forest fires (a large water tank), improve relations with police, military and forest service aircraft operators, give the town’s aircraft owners more space to park, help the neighboring hotel with expansion and find the money for all these projects. He’s even negotiating with a famous actor to get a WWII fighter plane on display for Wings and Wheels (The Sedona Car Show)! Well done. And, he was entertaining to listen to.

Driving Event Snow Bowl Gondola

Thursday, August 21, 2025, 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM

Location: Snow Bowl near Flagstaff, AZ, 9300 N Snow Bowl Rd, Flagstaff, AZ 86002

We will assemble at Posse Grounds Park at 8:30 AM and depart promptly at 9:00 AM. This is a scenic drive up Oak Creek Canyon and through Flagstaff to Snowbowl.

About this event: Come join us for a fun-filled day at Summer in Flagstaff. This road trip involves a run up through Oak Creek Canyon to Snow Bowl. We will then hitch a ride in a gondola up Humphrey's Peak. Great views. Great fellowship. Unmatched vistas from the highest mountain in Arizona! Once back down from the peak, we'll drive to Galaxy Diner for a great meal and more fellowship.

We recommend purchasing your tickets on the day of the event, as weather conditions can be unpredictable. Come prepared (proper clothing) for changing weather at higher elevations. Wear Sunscreen!

Road Trip: Phippen Museum of Western Art

Date and Time: Thursday, September 25, 2025, 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM

Location: Phippen Museum, 4701 Highway 89 North, Prescott, AZ 86302, USA

Come join the fun. We'll drive up through the twisty, turning roads through Jerome to Prescott to tour the Phippen Museum of Western Art. This is a personalized tour led by docents. After the docent-led tour, we'll have personal time to visit the other exhibits Phippen is offering.

We'll leave the museum around noon and drive to Lindo Mexican Restaurant, located at 1260 Gail Gardner Way, Ste 101, Prescott, AZ, United States, Arizona. Lunch is by separate tickets.

Museum prices are per person. Normal pricing ranges from $ 10.00 to $ 12.00. We have secured a group discount of $8.00, provided we have more than 10 registrants and the club pays in advance.
